yavuz.jpgYavuz Demirhan is a designer and producer of wooden puzzles. Based at his workshop is in Datça, a small town on a peninsula in southwestern Turkey, where the Agean see and the Mediterranean Sea aligns.  He started to produce wooden puzzles in 2003 but only started designing them relatively recently in 2010 so it's amazing that he has created these very innovative and complex designs so quickly.  He loves making and designing puzzles so much that he says "I never could stop to work as metagrobologist, because I love to see people enjoying puzzle games so I am working full-time".  You only have to look at the website Puzzle Will be Played (http://puzzlewillbeplayed.com/-/designer/Demirhan.xml) to see just how prolific a designer Yuvaz has become; over 330 and counting....
Yavuz's design shown here has been chosen as the trophy for the 2013 International Puzzle Design Competition to be judged in August 2013.  Congratulations Yavuz!

Estergon 2 framed burr Estergon 2 framed burr Out of Stock

The puzzle is to disassemble and reassemble the 4 piece interlocking framed burr.  The four piecs are made up of just 3 burr pieces that fit inside a single fixed frame.

Designed by Turkish designer Yavuz Demirhan in 2011 this puzzle is an amazingly complex design with a level 14 solution from this solved state. When the puzzle is completed with the symmetrical light colour squares in place on each face there is just one solution and one possible assembly. If the colour pattern is ignored there are 3 solutions from 5 possible assemblies.

Yavuz has challenged us this time with a 15 piece multiple move interlocking burr with a level 3 disassembly.  But how to konstruct the puzzle with the 12 pieces locking around the outside of a core classic 3 piece board burr?  An ingenious addition to a classic design Prof. Louis Hoffman called The Cross-Keys in his book Puzzles Old and New published in London in 1893.

Wood selection

We decided to get this one because of how deceiving it looks.   It is a 13 piece interlocking burr.  But when it’s assembled it looks like a three piece framed burr.  Not a high degree of difficulty to take apart but a very fun burr.  Very enjoyable to do.  A must for any collection because we’ve not seen too many puzzles like this before.

The puzzle is to remove the 2 burr pieces from the frame.

Designed by Turkish designer Yavuz Demirhan in 2012 this puzzle is one of a number of versions of this very unusual type of burr with pieces inside a frame by this amazing new puzzle designer.

The frame is made of three towers fixed on a base and the puzzle has 2 congruent pieces that can be removed and reinserted into the frame.

There are 6 possible assemblies but just one solution which is a level 12.5.  That means that it will take 12 moves to remove the first piece then another 5 to remove the second piece.

The puzzle is to disassemble and reassemble the 3 piece framed burr.

Designed recently by Turkish designer Yavuz Demirhan in early 2013 this puzzle is unlike the type of framed burr you might be used to doing.

The frame is made of two towers fixed on a base and the puzzle has 2 congruent pieces that can be removed and reinserted into the frame.

There are 4 possible assemblies but just one solution which is a level 9.9.  That means that it will take 9 moves to remove the first piece then another 9 to remove the second piece.

The puzzle is to take apart and reassemble the puzzle.
Just one assembly and one possible solution.  This level 16.4.6 burr makes a elegant simple cross shape with open centre.

Designed by Turkish designer Yavuz Demirhan in early 2013.
This puzzle is made in the Pelikan workshop using Acacia and Maple wood.
