hanradixsmall.jpgThere are so many metal disentanglement puzzles and brain teasers, and Hanayama is the leader in quality, innovation and design of metal cast puzzles, so we have set them up in their own category.  The puzzle is to disentangle and reentangle (is that even a real word?) the parts of the metal puzzle.

Interlocking Keys cast puzzle Interlocking Keys cast puzzle

The puzzle is to separate the two interlocked keys then join them back together again.
This puzzle was first patented in U.S.A. in 1892 by H.L.Davis.  By 1895 it had already spread to the UK and was being sold on the streets of London.  It's been a popular one ever since being made under many different names like Puzzle Keys, Magic Keys, The Key Puzzle and even Max and Fritz puzzle.

Star and Snake disentanglement puzzle Star and Snake disentanglement puzzle

QTY:

The puzzle is to separate the star from the snake.  Once done you'll then have the challenge (some say even harder) to put the star back in the snake loop.  It looks like it should not be too hard to do so definitely a puzzle to pass around.
This puzzle was one of the first cast metal puzzles ever made.  It was seen in Stanyon's 1905 Novelties Catalog under the name "Star and Garter Puzzle".
Historical information courtesy J.Slocum & J.Botermans published in "Puzzles Old and New" (c)1986.
