The object is to separate the two parts - N E W S. Nob Yoshigahara (1936 - 2004) came up with the idea for this puzzle when he was 19 years old while strolling home in the snow one day. Unfortunately saying anything here about it's construction would give away how to solve it. We certainly can't dapppoint the fans that have come to expect frustratingly difficult puzzles from Nob. Besides, Nob always loved the fans who refused to take any hint the most! The level of difficulty is very high because it's very difficult to work out the solution to the puzzle. Once done the puzzle is not difficult to memorise. The key word in "needle". Price:

Difficulty Level 4 «««« The puzzle is to separate the two pieces fashioned after the image of intertwining Bach melodies. At first glance this puzzle may seem similar to the interloced nail puzzles.... Beware, it's nothing like it. With this puzzle almost every surface of each of the two pieces needs to touch every surface of the other piece to get them apart. Quite some manouvering involved. A personal favourite of Mr Puzzle's. The puzzle was invented by the Japanese master metal smith Akio Yamamoto in 2003. He says he took his inspiration for this puzzle from a Bach melody. He describes the puzzle as two pieces that elegantly release from each other after the dynamic buildup to an inspirational finale. The puzzle comes with a cast loop at the top of one of the pieces so by putting it on a chain you can make it into an attractive pendant. Click here to see an example of how it could be worn. Price:
