The tiles are slid around very easily with one finger, one part at a time. The mechanism is easy enough for a young child to operate, and the "solid" color versions are simple enough to solve. Yet colour design can be very educational and give the opportunity to explore the 3D movements. A small but significant step from flat 2D-sliding puzzles to the third dimension. The one-part-at-a-time sliding system, a mechanism being patented by Hannu Hjerppe, allows the player to see the individual parts and the surrounding ones to figure out which one needs to be moved, to which direction, and how to get it done. This brand new puzzle invented and made in Finland has made the small but significant step from flat 2D-sliding puzzles to the third dimension. Bolaris (TM) , the easy-to-manipulate sliding puzzle in real 3D, was invented by the Finnish Industrial Designer, Hannu Hjerppe and made in Finland. Actually it's a 2D-sliding puzzle wrapped around a ball; the playing method is very much alike. Just the one little exception: it happens in 3D!
Difficulty Level 1/4 Easy (Age recommendation 6+) Once all the pieces have been scrambled to solve the puzzle slide the pieces around until the tones get lighter in each layer from the 'north pole' down to the 'south pole'. Difficulty Level 2/4 Medium Once all the pieces have been scrambled to solve the puzzle slide the pieces around until the colour tones are arranged light to dark. The complimentary colours are on the opposite sides of the ball, the light tones are around the white corner, and the dark tones are around the black corner. Difficulty Level 3/4 Difficult Once all the pieces have been scrambled to solve the puzzle slide the pieces around until the rectangular pieces form a continuous chain of dominos around the ball. As in the game of Dominos the points value must be the same as the matched side on the adjacent piece. Special edition Earth From Space. Difficulty Level 3.5/4 Very Difficult. Once all the pieces have been scrambled to solve the puzzle slide the pieces around until the rectangular pieces form a vision of earth from outer space.
