Category Sliding block puzzles are probably the best know in this category. Rush Hour has been a top seller since it's release by Binary Arts (later to become Think Fun) in 1996. But this is recent puzzle history. Back in 1932 J. H. Flemming patented the popular sliding block puzzle called Dad's Puzzle in England although it may have been known earlier than this in France as the L'Ane Rouge. Variations of this puzzle then became very popular in Japan during WWII; one called "Daughter in a Box" and another called "Break Through the Enemy's Defences" were made for civilians to pass the time in air raid shelters. This type puzzle is still very popular to this day with versions like our handsome wooden puzzle Major Migraine Maker and others.
The object is to be able to slide the large block to get the large block to the bottom. There's a sheet included with three possible starting positions but in reality there are endless combinations to start to make many different puzzles. The puzzle will ALWAYS be possible when the rectangular blocks are vertical. Where you place them will determine how many moves it will take to solve. The object of the puzzle is to make uniform colour patterns with the balls in the windows of the cylinder. No solution provided. Start with the centre position emply and balls on all other positions on the board. The object of the Solitaire puzzle, often known as Peg Solitaire to distinguish it from the card game also called Solitaire, is to remove the balls one after the other by jumping horizontally or vertically over another ball. In the end one ball should be left in the centre hole.

Size: Diameter of the board is Edward Hordern IPP Puzzle Exchange - San Francisco, USA, August 2009 This sliding block puzzle is very different to others. Firstly, you cannot touch the tiles that you must slide because they are behind perspex. You must use dexterity to do this. Generally more than one block at a time will be moving which means you must think many moves ahead. Secondly, you use the blocks that you are sliding to deliver the ball bearing from top to bottom of the puzzle. This is like a maze because at the same time you are sliding the blocks you are forming the maze-like track that the ball bearing must take to arrive at the bottom. Most of the pieces are different; that is the tracks in each tile that carry the ball bearing are different. The Frigidaire Jumble Puzzle is a 9 piece slide puzzle. Circa 1940.
