Gear Cube amazing twisty puzzle by Meffert

Designed by Oskar van Deventer, and inspired by a gearing idea from Bram Cohen, the Gear Cube is a brand new concept in cube design using a full gear mechanism that requires twelve 90 degree turns to complete one rotation.

The cube has a new speed cube inner core for amazingly smooth rotation.  The gears are external to the puzzle, with gear teeth on corner and edge pieces, so the orientation can be clearly seen making a cube with features that you recognise as a Rubik’s Cube.  However the solving experience is completely new and very unexpected.

The Gear Cube was awarded Meffert's Puzzle of the Year for 2010.

There are a number of challenges with this cube.
-
First to make a cube with a solid colour on each face like yo would with a regular Rubik's Cube.
- Another is getting the puzzle to a state where each face has only two colors (of opposite faces). This is a bit harder, but achievable for many people.
- Hardest is solving the puzzle as a whole, which is still easier than the original Rubik’s Cube.

Size: 60mm x 60mm x 60mm.  Very well packaged in Hexagonal clear box.

You might also get some hints from watching this fun video made by Oskar solving the puzzle where he explains why he was originally going to call it his "Caution Cube"
