Witchetty Grub - White Cedar timber

The object of the puzzle is to put the Witchetty Grub back together.

The 6 beautifully hand sanded pieces of White Cedar wood interlock to make the shape of a witchetty grub, a creature known to aboriginal people as ngarlkirdi.   The live grub is white and its head is black and yellow. It is up to 120mm long and 30mm thick. It lives in the roots of the Witchetty Bush which is part of the acacia family and found in the central deserts of Australia.

They make a good meal in the desert.  First, you find a tree with little cracks in the ground around it. You dig the roots out with a crowbar or a digging stick called a kudra by aboriginal people. Then you break the roots in half and see if there are any witchetty grubs inside. You can eat them without cooking. They taste like eggs. It is said that eating witchetty grubs gives you energy because it makes your blood strong and move faster.

Size: Footprint approximately 290mm x 60mm Height 75mm
