The Jerry Slocum Collection of mechanical puzzles embodies a lifetime pursuit of the intriguing and the perplexing. The result is the largest assemblage of its kind in the world, with over 30,000 puzzles and 4,000 puzzle related books. Unlike word or jigsaw puzzles, mechanical puzzles are hand-held objects that must be manipulated to achieve a specific goal. Popular examples include the Rubik's cube and tangrams. The Hordern-Dalgety Collection online museum

Comprising tens of thousands of mechanical puzzles from 320 BC to tomorrow's prototypes. "Mechanical Puzzles", are also known as "Chinese Puzzles", "Real Puzzles", and "Practical Puzzles".

Nob Yoshigahara's Puzzle Collection

In September of 2012, a permanent exhibition based on Nob Yoshigahara's Puzzle Collection (NOB Collection) opened at Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) in Ishikawa prefecture. JAIST Gallery was established with the aim of contributing to promote education and research, and to contribute to society. Puzzles were donated to the university by one of the world's largest collectors the late Nobuyuki Yoshigahara (1936 - 2004) who was famous at home and abroad as a collector, inventor, and writer.
