Other types of jigsaw puzzles

Jigsaw Puzzle: n. A jigsaw puzzle is a tiling puzzle that requires the assembly of numerous small, oddly shaped interlocking pieces. Each piece has a small part of a picture on it; when complete, a jigsaw puzzle produces a complete picture.

Why do we do them? Just because there is no better feeling that getting the last piece in, OF COURSE!

On this page, you’ll find jigsaw puzzles that are traditionally flat but the ones we’ve listed here are so much more…..

Ravensburger. Synonymous with the term Jigsaw Puzzle

The company was founded by Otto Robert Maier in Ravensburg, southern Germany in 1883 and he published his first board game called “Journey Around the World” in 1884.
Even before WWI Ravensburger had more than 800 products from children’s games and activity kits to picture books and in those days other reference and non-fiction books as well.

Ravensburger started to make jigsaw puzzle games in 1964 and by 1977 decided to split the publishing arm into a separate company and concentrate on jigsaw puzzles.

In September 2010 Ravensburger set the record for the world’s largest jigsaw puzzle of 24,000 pieces and then went further to create “Memorable Disney Moments” which has 40,320 pieces. It’s not the largest jigsaw puzzle ever created. Guinness Book of Records has that as a giant 551232 piece jigsaw puzzle made by students at the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam in September 2011. It took 1600 of them to assemble it!

Ravensburger. To many people, it means Jigsaw Puzzle!

Jeruel Industries and Beverly Enterprises Creating 3D Jigsaws

Jeruel Industrial and Beverly Puzzles teamed up in the early 2000’s to create the amazing 3D Crystal Puzzle and were soon winning award after award for Creative Toy Design. And their range has continued to expand over the years.

3D Jigsaw Puzzles are three-dimensional transparent figures that stay together on their own once assembled.

Each finished puzzle is made by assembling the pieces into the 3D model. Every piece in the puzzle is a unique shape.

Once you start with one you’ll want to collect them all. We’ve curated some of the most popular and challenging here for you to choose from.

The Benefits of Doing Jigsaw Puzzles for all Ages

No matter what your age, there are some benefits to jigsaw puzzles that are universal. Everyone who spends a little time (or a lot of time!) doing jigsaw puzzles can benefit from:
Increased happiness. When people complete puzzles after a lot of hard work and focus, their brains release dopamine and endorphins that create feelings of joy and accomplishment. This, in turn, improves feelings of confidence, optimism, and concentration. For kids, it encourages them to continue challenging themselves, and for adults, this feeling can enhance productivity at work.
Stress relief. There is something oddly soothing about working on a jigsaw. Despite your intermittent frustration, the brain loves opportunities to focus on one thing at a time. It allows you to go into a sort of meditative state and truly relax. If the kids are hyperactive, give them a simple jigsaw puzzle to help them calm down and learn how to regulate their emotions.
An outlet for creativity. Both kids and adults alike need opportunities to express their creativity. While jigsaw puzzles may not seem creative, you need to possess a lot of imagination to brainstorm how all these pieces might fit together to complete the puzzle. They’re a fantastic way to exercise the right side of your brain!
Memory improvement. Some of these puzzles, especially the 3D jigsaws on this page, require more than just putting pieces together in a flat arrangement to make a picture. To solve some of these puzzles once is an achievement. If you want to master one of these puzzles, you’ll need to solve it a few times to prove your attempts weren’t flukes, and this involves plenty of memorisation. For little ones, this practice allows them to develop their memories, learn to follow instructions, and improve their problem-solving abilities. In adults, exercising memory can help stave off diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

So, get your synapses going by working on one of these amazing jigsaw type puzzles.
