Steve and Ali are really building a wonderful set of big brass puzzles here! In the longer term, they’re looking at building a set of 6. Whilst it would be ideal to experience them in order just to appreciate the graduation from standard, to tricky, to even more challenging … who knows what the next one will bring!? … they can definitely be enjoyed as stand-alone puzzles too.
Brass Monkey Three has two rings engraved on the end of each piece which is the only outward difference to the Brass Monkey One & Two puzzles. But after fiddling for a while you won’t take long to understand that this one doesn’t work like either of the two earlier releases.
It does have the elements of a burr puzzle but it’s really a take apart puzzle; more like a trick opening lock puzzle.
Puzzlers who’ve managed to solve this one tell us that even when you think you know what you will need to do to solve the puzzle it actually takes quite a while to achieve it. Because the puzzle is to accurately machined it, in turn, demands accuracy in the movements to solve it.
Brass Monkey One, Two and Three will definitely make a gorgeous line up on your puzzle shelf but might take a bit of explaining to friends why you bought three puzzles the same! until they play with them that is and realise they are far from being the same.
Definitely a step up from the Brass Monkey Two, this puzzle is the next step in the collaboration between the Two Brass Monkey’s (aka Steve Nicholls and Ali Morris – who designed the Tricky 8.8 Bolt also available on this website).
The puzzle is designed and produced in the UK by Steve Nicholls and Ali Morris at Two Brass Monkeys and 100% of the work on this puzzle is done in the UK. This is a high-quality puzzle made with fine tolerances from solid brass and stainless steel. It’s very heavy and made specifically for those who love these precision machined heavy metal puzzles. It weighs almost 1 kilogram.
The makers have thought of all sorts of little details. They 3D printed small plastic caps for the ends of the pieces to prevent the ends being knocked in transport. And velvet bag to keep your puzzle in later.
Size: 70mm x 70mm x 70mm The pieces have a diameter of 19mm
A solution is not included with the puzzle.
