Description

There are many different Chinese Secret Boxes available these days but we’ve tried to choose puzzle boxes with a range of solutions and difficulty ratings. We sell them individually or in a set of 3.

Different to the Good Luck and Good Fortune boxes. The same size as the Heart secret puzzle box. But a different solve to the others. The box has a step by step printed solution with 6 stages that you need to follow so it’s not as easy to open as some other puzzle boxes.

Like the Heart Chinese puzzle box, this one has a smaller groove for coins and a larger groove on the other side for notes. And great for locking away a Gift Card or some other small gift for some extra fun at Christmas!

Size: 150mm x 65mm x 50mm Space inside: 120mm x 50mm x 26mm  A standard gift card will fit inside this box but you may have to remove it from the display card it comes on.
The box is packaged in a plain white cardboard box with a solution inside. We instruct the maker to fold the solution with the instructions facing in so the puzzler cannot see the solution graphics by mistake. At Mr Puzzle we try to account for all possibilities.

At Mr Puzzle we have opened every one of these boxes to check the quality and that the box works as expected.

Peter Rasmussen & Wei Zhang wrote to us recently to share a very interesting history about the origins of these Secret Boxes and now they are working with Chinese manufacturer MiToys to produce these modern puzzle boxes based on four of the historic boxes in their collection.

The secret opening boxes are based on antique treasure boxes found in Shanxi province in China. Most of the original examples they found came from small rural markets and they seemed to have been used by local families to hold property deeds and other valuables.  Today people enjoy the challenge of opening the boxes as puzzles rather than using them to hold their treasures.

They even found one that has an inscription dated “31st year of the Guangxu reign” (1905), proving that their use goes back more than 100 years.
