Hanayama Difficulty Level 1 – Beginner
Can you take it apart? Can you assemble it again? Getting the two parts of the loop back together again will be much trickier than you might think.
Created by the young Finnish puzzle designer Vesa Timonen this puzzle was the winner of the Puzzlers Choice award and the Jury’s First Prize at the 2007 Nob Yoshigahara Puzzle Design Competition.
In 2002 the designer Vesa Timonen came up with an endearing Cast Puzzle. The famous puzzle designer Oskar van Deventer showed me an interesting prototype using helical movement. By chance, at the same time, Vesa had started to design an engagement ring for my girlfriend (lucky girl!). It took him 3 years to perfect a design for the ring that he was happy with. They are now happily married.
During that design process, Vesa had multiple ideas that did not work out as a ring. The Cast Loop is one of those but look what a beautiful and elegant puzzle it has made. One of the appeals of this puzzle is that it can double up as an accessory when the two parts have been perfectly fitted together. Put the puzzle on a leather thong so that you can use it as a pendant – it certainly makes a baffling piece of jewellery.
The keyword is “Synthesis”.
Size: Puzzle diameter 45mm.
The puzzle now comes in the new Hanayama Huzzle packaging graded by colour. Silver is for Level 1 puzzles. Maybe the most special and most enjoyable of all!
Hanayama puzzles come packaged with a printed solution. Not offered as standard by other sellers. And many people have needed it even if the puzzle is rated Level 1.
