Designed & made by the Karakuri Creation Group Karakuri Small Box #4 is part of a set that has their origins in Akio Kamei designs from the early to mid 1990’s. This puzzle is said to be based on “Box with a Ribbon” from 1996 although even the Karakuri Group themselves say this changed solution is (quote from “World of Karakuri Box that Evolves published 2008) “a little unkind”! The box has an obviously separate bottom so you seem to have a clue about where to start but that just makes it more intriguing!
The Karakuri Creation Group’s woodworking skills are very well known. It is almost impossible to see the joins where one panel meets another on this box making the puzzle even harder to do. We have sourced these boxes directly from Japan.
The Hakone region is affectionately known in the puzzle community as Puzzle Mountain! The region has a long history of generations of master craftsmen making secret opening boxes for more than 100 years. Our stock of these boxes is very limited and once sold we’re not sure how long it will be before we could get similar puzzle boxes again.
Size outside: 47mm x 47mm x 47mm Space inside: 25mm x 25mm x 20mm
A solution is provided which also has some handy hints to care for your puzzle. Because the puzzle is made from natural wood from the region it may have some knots in the wood and very visible grain. But every puzzle is different. Some do not show this.
