Rollercoaster interlocking and dexterity and packing puzzle in one!

$27.27

Quick Overview

Rollercoaster interlocking and dexterity and packing puzzle in one! You'll need to solve the puzzle inside the confined space of the box.

Photo: These puzzles with clear acrylic elements are very tricky to photograph so that they show just how lovely the clear box looks. So I've taken a couple of a different background out in the sunlight so hopefully that shows the puzzle off better. There is also a photo of each of the different wood types to help you choose the colour.

Designed by Laszlo Molnar. Presented by Jerry Slocum. Made by Mr Puzzle.

There is only three piece to fit in the box and yet the Rollercoaster is an interlocking puzzle, a dexterity puzzle and a packing puzzle all rolled into one. And it's hard!

According to the designer the uniqueness of the puzzle is that it's meant to be a put-together puzzle AND a dexterity puzzle in one. The puzzler should carefully move the box and pieces, always holding them in the right direction, but without touching the pieces inside the box.

Laszlo called the puzzle Rollercoaster after the action of rolling the pieces around inside the cube to get to the solution.  He says "I like amusement park analogs, and here the movement of all pieces reminded me of the rollercoaster."  Laszlo is from Malta and though there isn't a huge puzzle community there he says his puzzle design days really started as a challenge to design something to stump a puzzle friend but he's since found he enjoys the process very much.

The puzzle was an entrant in the 2018 Nob Yoshigahara Puzzle Design Competition.

The puzzle has 4 pieces if you consider the clear acrylic box as one of the pieces. It has one corner cutout and this allows you to insert the wooden pieces into the cube. The wooden pieces come in a range of 5 different Australian hardwoods.
Blush Alder - This is a hardwood with a pinkish brown colour. It weighs lighter than the heaviest wood like Jarrah.
Blackbutt - The wood is not black as the name would suggest. It has even golden brown tones. It's common name comes from the appearance of the buttress after a bushfire.
Saffron Heart - This wood grows in Australia and Papua New Guinea. The wood has a distinct yellow tinge to it.
Jarrah - A dense and heavy wood grown mostly in Western Australia this wood varies from light to much darker red in colour.
Black Wattle - A lovely brown wood that mostly has darker streaks in it.

Size: 67mm x 67mm x 67mm A step by step printed solution is included.
