Tower of Hanoi puzzle. And oldie but a goodie.
There are many myths and legends about the origins of this puzzle but it seems that the French Mathematician Edouard Lucas actually created the puzzle in 1883. He may have also created the essence of the myths as well to help promote the puzzle and give it an air of mystique.
And as a result, the puzzle might be the most famous movement game of all time!
Learn the pattern and you’ll soon be able to master transferring the stack of 9 disks from one rod to another. It’s the type of puzzle that can be quite therapeutic as you move the disks and work out the movement pattern.
This puzzle has 9 disks so that means there will be a minimum of 255 moves if you don’t have to backtrack. In theory, you could make one with 64 disks but 18,446,744,073,709,551,615 is just way too many for anyone’s lifetime to actually complete the puzzle! If you made a move a second, with no wrong moves, that’s over 584,942,417,355 years!!!!
It’s nicely presented. The lid comes up and you can pack the rods and disks away for storing. And it’s a larger size too.
