In 1953 Willem L van der Poel, a leading Dutch computer scientist, set out to design a puzzle with as many interlocking pieces as possible and came up with an 18 piece burr. Van der Poel’s version required 3 moves to get the last piece in place.
In 1997 Brian @ Mr Puzzle changed the burr to create a puzzle with 5 moves to get the last piece in. The redesign also minimised the number of identical pieces in the puzzle. This was the start of Brian journey to create the Coming of Age MkII.
The puzzle was sold disassembled with a card and a printed solution.
