Your brain is the same as all the other muscles in your body – it needs to be exercised to stay in good shape.
Puzzles are not referred to as Brainteasers for no reason. Challenging and teasing the brain to come up with the answer to puzzles that specifically involve maths problems and sudoku is one way to keep your brain in shape. It’s also a great way to introduce kids to learning without them even knowing that’s what they’re doing.
When you immerse yourself in trying to solve a new puzzle it’s fun and stimulating and very satisfying when you’ve solved it. But at the same time when you’re concentrating on the strategy you’ll take to solve it you don’t even realise at first the longer term benefits that puzzling has. Improvements in concentration, memory, and brain processing speed all happen as you puzzle over the solution.
Sure puzzles in this category like Equal7! and the kids iLEARN series are great for exercising your math skills. But don’t forget to choose a range of puzzles from other categories too like 2D or 3D put together puzzles to test and develop your space visualisation skills, or try some of the sequential movement puzzles like The Tower of Hanoi or Solitaire to test your strategy and planning skills.
You’re never too old or too young to be giving your brain a puzzle workout!
