Choose from three unique puzzle boxes from the inventive mind of Jean Claude Constantin. Or collect them all.
Unlike many puzzle inventors who specialise in a particular type of puzzle, Constantin is known for inventing a huge range of different types of puzzles and he’s a master at puzzle boxes or trick boxes as well. His designs are not like the traditional Japanese Puzzle Boxes. Sometimes they might only take a couple of moves to open, but he has usually included hard to find tricks not just sliding panels like the Japanese Secret Boxes.
Seasoned puzzlers can spot a Constantin puzzle right away. His designs always feature something new and inventive in their concept. Their presentation is very well thought-out and elegant. And Recent Toys have done a high-quality job of manufacturing the puzzle for Jean Claude.
If you’re already a veteran puzzler you’ll have some Constantin puzzles in your collection already. But if you’re just starting out in this fantastic hobby a few Constantin puzzles are a must to enhance your collection and this puzzle box is a good example of this type of puzzle to have.
BLUE #1 – JCC Difficulty Rating 3 stars/5
There’s definite JCC trickery involved in this puzzle. No way is it like a Japanese puzzle box where you’re searching for a panel to slide.
The easiest one in this set of 3 different puzzle boxes; that doesn’t mean it’s easy. It is after all a Jean Claude Constantin design. It just means it’s the easiest of this set. But just right to get a feel for these type of puzzles.
GREEN #2 – JCC Difficulty Rating 4 stars/5
Misdirection and stratagem play a big part in the ingenious design of this puzzle. If you’ve had puzzles by Jean Claude before then you’ll instinctively expect that it’s not going to be like anything you’ve seen before.
No force is necessary to do the puzzle at all. Brian loves the solution but he did notice that the puzzle is a little less robust than the others. This puzzle does have a pivot point that seems to come loose with repeated use. Having said that it does not affect the solution.
BROWN #3 – JCC Difficulty Rating 5 stars/5
To date, Brian hasn’t cracked this one so we have no personal experience to bring to bear here. All we know is that it’s kept him puzzling for almost an hour so far!!! We’ll keep you posted on progress solving.
The puzzles are made from layered plywood with the name of the puzzle printed on the top. The puzzles are packaged with an information card in a clear acrylic box but it does not contain the solution. That just means there’ll be no chance of cheating!
Size: 150mm x 83mm x 34mm
Box #2 definitely have enough space inside to put a gift card but please remember, there is no solution with the box so you would have to work it out to then give it to someone else.
Box #1 has a space that’s a bit smaller and will not fit a card inside. It measures 50mm x 40mm x 5mm
Box #3 is probably the same but we haven’t opened it yet so we cannot be sure!
