The puzzle is to disassemble the puzzle, mess up the pieces, then try to reassemble them into the three way cross shape.
With the slanted cut even a more seasoned puzzler will find this one surprisingly trickier than the standard version.
Although its origins are not exactly known E.M.Wyatt featured the standard Double Cross puzzle in his “Puzzles in Wood” book back in 1928. And Professor Hoffman described the puzzle as “interlocked with extreme ingenuity” in his book Puzzles Old & New published in 1893. But this 3 piece interlocking burr was probably known a long time before even that.
