Description
Hanayama Difficulty Level 4
The puzzle is to separate the two pieces fashioned after the image of intertwining Bach melodies.
At first glance this puzzle may seem similar to the interlocked nail puzzles…. Beware, it’s nothing like it. With this puzzle, almost every surface of each of the two pieces needs to touch every surface of the other piece to get them apart. Quite some maneuvering involved. A personal favourite of Mr Puzzle’s.
The puzzle was invented by the Japanese master metalsmith Akio Yamamoto in 2003. He says he took his inspiration for this puzzle from a Bach melody. He describes the puzzle as two pieces that elegantly release from each other after the dynamic buildup to an inspirational finale.
You may wish to choose a somewhat luxurious and relaxing ambience when attempting this puzzle.
The puzzle comes with a cast loop at the top of one of the pieces so by putting it on a chain you can make it into an attractive pendant.
Size: Presented in a view window box which is 75mm x 115mm x 45mm

Beautiful, elegant puzzle and provides a good challenge. I actually solved and re-assembled it three times before I fully grasped how I’d managed to get there. Very satisfying to re-do even once you know the solution and just a nice piece to have around from a purely decorative perspective.
