Soma Cube is not just for kids.  Adults love this one too!  The bright colours appeal to kids and invite them to play.  But we’ve included a challenge that adults might have to help them with (if they can!).

Description

The puzzle is to assemble the cube from 27 individual cubes glued into the 7 different shapes.

Mr Puzzle has included a sheet with additional challenges. There are 22 shapes to try to make on the sheet. BUT 1 of them is impossible. To work out which one you’ll have to make the other 21. Tick them off as you go and find out which one you’re left with!
Remember, you much use all seven pieces to make each shape….. And ONLY ONE of them is impossible!

The difficulty level will be a considerable challenge for younger children but its bright colours make it appealing for them to play with and in time they’ll learn how to do it.

Danish poet and writer Piet Hein invented this puzzle in 1936 while attending a lecture on quantum physics. R. Guy at the University of Malaya in Singapore tabulated 240 different solutions for the puzzle…. but this is by no means the final count.  Soma is derived from the drug which transported it’s users into a dreamlike trance in Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World (1932) and has since been used to name a specific part of our brain.

Soma Cube even has it’s own Wikipedia page and there are lots of other websites that show other shapes than can be made with the same pieces. Lots of great challenges here.

Size 58mm x 58mm x 58mm
The puzzle is made of wood and brightly painted. It’s shrink-wrapped inside a plain white box. We have included a sheet with the additional challenges and the solution to them all. This is a challenge sheet we have created many years ago and is not included by other retailers.
