It’s just a 3×3 cube puzzle right? Wrong! This is an enthralling twist (pun fully intended!) on a well known cube puzzle.
Once you start turning this one it very quickly loses its twisted shape and magically seems to morph into something closer to a standard 3×3 cube with the appearance of flat sides. BUT… there’s always a but… these sides are not flat; they seem to have big chunks cut out of them. So overall the shape is familiar and at the same time totally strange.
The development of the twisted cube seems to have been started back in 2008 by Adam G. Cowan. The first actual working sample was made by Frank Schwartz that same year.
Since then Eitan Cher applied the twist in a couple of different ways. Eitan says he began designing and building custom made twisty puzzles in 2008 using SolidWorks CAD drawing program and getting them 3D printed by Shapeways, an online 3D printing service based in the Netherlands. Finally in 2015 he designed a puzzle called “Eitan’s Cube Twist” that he had mass produced. Quite an evolution for such a very young person.
This puzzle is sourced from Chengye Toy Factory and so the quality is not what the original Eitan’s Cube Twist would be. The puzzle has been pre-lubed and turns very smoothly. Good value for the price.
