IPP39 Kanazawa exchange puzzles

At Mr Puzzle we made two puzzles designed by George Sicherman for this year’s IPP39 held in Kanazawa, Japan.

The Edward Hordern puzzle exchange event is held every year at IPP. People who want to participate must bring a new design of good quality and they proceed to fill the day by exchanging their puzzle with the puzzle of each of the others in the room.  In Kanazawa, there were 76 participants. So you can see by the time the puzzlers explain the concept of their puzzle to each other, some with a long story and in costume!, it can take quite a while to get through the event.

The Cover Up puzzle is not too hard and very playable. Great fun to try to solve.  We’ve found that people with just a casual interest in puzzles fiddle with this one for ages not believing that it’s possible but not wanting to put it away.  Hardcore puzzlers on the other hand really appreciate the design and just how the shapes fit together.

Brian has never solved the Martian Diamond even though he gave it as an exchange puzzle.  So only Sue and the others at Mr Puzzle really know that it works! Scary!
