Links to Mazes to visit throughout Australia and New Zealand

The first recorded maze in Australia was in the Botanical Gardens in Ballarat, Victoria which were started in 1858. The first maze, recorded in 1862, was in the vicinity of The Conservatory. A second maze, was in the North Gardens was built in 1888 to the same design as the one at Hampton Court Palace in London. It was finally removed in 1959.
There are still many places thoughout Australia and NZ that you can visit a maze and experience the challenge of finding your way through.

Lilly Library at Indiana University
The Jerry Slocum Collection of mechanical puzzles embodies a lifetime pursuit of the intriguing and the perplexing. The result is the largest assemblage of its kind in the world, with over 30,000 puzzles and 4,000 puzzle related books. Unlike word or jigsaw puzzles, mechanical puzzles are hand-held objects that must be manipulated to achieve a specific goal. Popular examples include the Rubik’s cube and tangrams. The puzzles in the collection represent centuries of mathematical, social, and recreational history from across five continents.

The Hordern-Dalgety Collection online museum
Comprising tens of thousands of mechanical puzzles from 320 BC to tomorrow’s prototypes. “Mechanical Puzzles”, are also known as “Chinese Puzzles”, “Real Puzzles”, and “Practical Puzzles”.
The Hordern-Dalgety Collection was started in 1886. This Website in 1996. The Public Museum will be opened when an appropriate home is found to host it. Meanwhile please enjoy this virtual selection from the collection.

Nob Yoshigahara’s Puzzle Collection
In September of 2012, a permanent exhibition based on Nob Yoshigahara’s Puzzle Collection (NOB Collection) opened at Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) in Ishikawa prefecture. JAIST Gallery was established with the aim of contributing to promote education and research, and to contribute to society. Puzzles were donated to the university by one of the world’s largest collectors the late Nobuyuki Yoshigahara (1936 – 2004) who was famous at home and abroad as a collector, inventor, and writer.

IQMuseum
The International Intellectual Museum is a heartful contribution by Mongolian people to the precious intellectual fund of the world community. The International Intellectual Museum is the first privately owned museum and was established on August 13, 1990 in Ulaanbaatar. The museum displays over eleven thousand of intellectual items from 130 countries around the World. Go ‘Beyond Rubik’s Cube’ at Liberty Science Center
Well, we finally did it. We built the world’s first museum exhibition about the Rubik’s Cube.  7,000 sq ft of games, puzzles, history, art, and engineering, all inspired by Ernő Rubik’s best-selling masterpiece.  Whether you’re Mats Valk or just looking for an excellent way to spend a summer day, Beyond Rubik’s Cube has something amazing you’ve never seen before. Open until November 2014.
